Poems Out Loud - 2023

JGIS organized an Inter-school Recitation Competition in English - ‘Poems Out Loud’ on 14th July, 2023 which was:

  • an attempt to revive the traditional art of poetry recitation
  • an exercise in public speaking and elocution
  • an opportunity to listen to expressions of feelings and ideas in rhyme

When a student participates in such competition(s), he/she is expected to feel the poem and make it his/her own.  Such exposure and performance develop the student’s ability to appreciate the finer things in life. Developing a taste for aesthetics is a quality that should be there in a global citizen.

The competition was held in two categories: (a) Group A: classes III to V, (b) Group B: classes VI to VIII. Twenty three reputed schools of Ahmedabad participated in this competition. 

Mr. Sudhir Kulkarni, Ms. Ayushi Jhaveri, Ms. Deepa Sanghavi were our Judges for the competition.

Individual prizes were awarded to the first, the second and the third place holders in every category. Arvy Kalkute of Jamnabai Narsee won the first position in the junior category while Evara Udainiya of Zebar School for children secured the second position. Hrishankh Garg of Eklavya School bagged third position.

In the senior category the first position was awarded to Kovidh Tank of Eklavya School whereas the second position was given to Krisha Modi of Rachna School. The third position was bagged by Anisha Parekh of Amarjyoti Saraswati International School.

The two special awards in the following categories (a) for ‘Reciting the best self-written poem’, (b) for ‘The best vocal quality’ was bagged by Hiya Mehta of Delhi Public School, Bopal and Bansari Surti of Nirma Vidyavihar respectively.
