CAS Trip to Dandeli (IBDP I & II) – 2023

DAY 1 & 2: The students of IBDP - I and II took a trip to Dandeli from the 9th to 14th October, 2023 as a part of the CAS cirriculum. After boarding the train on 9th October, 2023 the students arrived to Hubballi next day in the morning. After the train journey, was lined up another two hours of bus journey to get to the their desired destination. The students got to Dandeli in the early afternoon. After freshening up and taking some time off, the students proceeded for their first of the many adventures; The Jungle Safari in the Kali Tiger Reserve. The reserve is known for its vast spread, lush greenery and stands as a sole spot for different species including the endangered like the Tiger. The reserve is also home to animals like Panther, elephants and different types of insects and birds. The students spotted animals like the Bison, Deer, spiders, Hawk, Blue parrots and many different plants and insects. The jungle safari was in open jeeps which made the experience all the more mesmerizing and cherishable! Some walk in the forest alongisde some astonishing views and many pictures called it off for jungle safari. After returning to the resort, it was time for campfire. After lighting the campfire, the students sung and danced with many fun-filled conversations called it a day wrap.

 

DAY 3: The students began their day trekking in the woods. The forest cover adjacent to the resort made for a remarkable spot to trek. After this, it was time to move to our next adventure but there was a surprise awaiting us. A small village in Dandeli found a King Cobra in their farm and was taken by professionals to rescue those localites. The students got the oppurtunity to see that snake and the way in which it was kept. King Cobra is one of the rarest kinds of snakes found in India and watching them from such a distance was truly  a one of a kind oppurtunity. Next stop was a workshop where the students saw dedicated craftsmen designing wood of different kinds like Sheesham, Teakwood, etc. The students also got to visit one of the four excellency manufacturing centres affiliated with Siemens industry. A closer insight into the production process gave them more insight into the designing molds and metals efficiently. After a wonderful experience at the centre, the students proceeded to see a honey farm. They were explained the various types of bees and its importance to the society. They also understood the working pattern of the bee community and the process in which pure honey is extracted. Later we went to the sight-seeing spot which is known as an amazing spot for pictures. After spending some time there, the students went ‘go karting’ and had a splendid time doing this. The last spot for the day was the crocodile park, a place to know more about their existence and their habitat. They have been labelled critically endangered species which is why preserving them have been Dandeli’s main objectives. The day was well spent with some everlasting memories.

 

DAY 4: The students began their day by trekking on a private land. The local guide familiarised the students with the various crops, vegetables and plants grown and harvested in that area. The guide also showed the students insects like spiders and worms very common to the area. After taking a long walk in the woods, the students proceeded to the resort where they freshend up and had lunch. The next destination was to visit St. Micheal’s Convent High School. The students’ main objective was to familiarise the local students with the culture of Gujarat and educate them about Garba. After interacting with the students, they decided to teach them the steps and perform some bit of the choreography prepared by the IB students. Since a different and culturally distinct state like Karnataka is such a vast abode of knowledge, the students got their hands on many traditions of this state and their objective was to inculcate the same feeling of inclusivity among the diverese backgrounds. The session concluded with some fun conversations and everlasting memories. The day ended with  students enjoying in the swimming pool and an experience that truly defines the meaning of growth and reflection.

 

DAY 5: The final day in Dandeli was truly the most fun-filled day of the trip since it was time for water activites. The students got an oppurtunity to do activities like Rafting, Water Zorbing, Kayaking and Zip Line. The time flew to early afternoon where the students had to pack their bags, get ready and proceed to Ahmedabad.

After taking a bus to get to Hubballi, the students boarded the train with a bag full of everlasting and cherishable memories with calling this trip to Dandeli a wrap!!
