World Yoga Day - 2022
Yoga is said to have originated in India and speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions. It is mentioned in the Rigveda, but most likely developed between the fifth and sixth centuries BC. The actual Sanskrit word, ‘Yog’, when broken down, means ‘to control’ or ‘to unite’. The word has also been translated to mean ‘joining’, ‘uniting’ or ‘union’. The union is established between the self and the spirit.
Yoga today has become increasingly popular, both for spiritual benefits as well as for the physical advantages and is also used in conjunction with meditation. Yoga can help a person achieve the physical strength, flexibility, spiritual awareness and mental equilibrium to bring peace and happiness together. India has given yoga to the world, and we should be conscious about building this community of yoga, stronger for the future generation and spread it across the globe.
Yoga Day is celebrated among the youth and children to make them understand the importance of Yoga in their life. It helps students understand how to maintain harmony between their body and mind. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when working remotely became the new normal, yoga encourages people to remain active and have a balanced state of mind.
To spread the importance and benefits of Yoga, JG International School observed the World Yoga Day for the students of class I to IV. Approximately 50 children from junior classes participated. The one hour session was jointly conducted by the PE teacher and Yoga teacher. Different asanas were demonstrated by the teachers for the students to follow.
