Onam Celebration – 2023
Onam, the vibrant and culturally rich festival of Kerala, is one of the most significant and eagerly awaited celebrations in JG International School which was celebrated on 28th August, 2023. It is a time of immense joy and depicts classical example of unity amongst diversity. Onam is a harvest festival and a tribute to the mythical King Mahabali, who is believed to return to Kerala during this time. The festival showcases a blend of cultural and artistic traditions, making it a unique and unforgettable experience for teachers and students.
The preparations for Onam celebration began much in advance. Dress code for the teachers was traditional south Indian Saree. The day began with beautiful ‘Pookalam’ made by our teachers near the entrance. Onam is marked by a variety of cultural events and performances. The most famous of these is the "Pulikali" or "Tiger Dance," where students of Class II dressed beautifully as tiger cubs and performed a captivating dance. Other programmes included dance drama by students of VII-VIII, Mohiniattam by one of our DP I student, Nadan dance by the students of VI. Anchoring for the event was done by students of Grade V. Teachers also enthusiastically performed kaikottikalli/thiruvathira, vallamkali (Boat race dance) and sung Onappattu.
Onam truly represents the spirit of Kerala, and its celebration is a testament to the school’s cultural vibrancy and diversity.
