Lit Fest (Class-VIII) - 2023
The students of grade VIII IGCSE presented one of the best fictional novels - The Hobbit on 10th February, 2023. The play revolves around the protagonist Bilbo Baggins, who is persuaded and guided by Gandulf to set out on a journey with thirteen militant dwarves who were embarking on a great quest to reclaim their treasure from the marauding dragon, Smaug, in which Bilbo had to act as their Burglar. The protagonist faces many challenges: at first, he is captured by Gollum, a fascinating and wicked character who threatens him, but Bilbo escapes using the precious ring. Later, he steals the Golden Cup from the infuriating dragon Smaug and in order to bring peace, Bilbo hands over the Arkenstone to Bard, the archer. The students gave a new lease to all the characters and with their exemplary performance, they enacted the Battle of the Five Armies.
The novel presented by the students of class VIII ICSE was Ahimsa, by Supriya Kelkar. The novel is set in the 1940s, during the British Raj. The story revolves around a ten-year old girl, Anjali, who is mature enough to understand the atrocities caused by the British on the Indians. When her mother decides to join the Indian Freedom Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, Anjali shows her disagreement and anger as she does not want her mother to land in any kind of danger. Eventually, she accepts it and feels proud of her mother.
The students presented the story in an engaging manner. They spoke their dialogues with proper intonation and voice modulation, displaying emotions through their expressions. The audience was transported to the pre-Independence era and was reminded of the sacrifices of our great freedom fighters.
