Visit to Gandhi Ashram (Class-V) - 2023
On 7th February 2023, children of class V had an opportunity to connect with the historical moments of India through a visit to Gandhi Ashram- housing memorials of the father of the Nation- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi famously known as Mahatma Gandhi.
We started from school around 10.00 am. Soon, on reaching the Ashram, we visited the museum which showcased the photos and letters written and received by Gandhiji. Along with these, the museum also has an art gallery (oil-painted picture gallery) which has well-preserved pictures and timeline of his life and the Indian national movements which he initiated and participated in.
Children got a chance to get a glimpse of the British India and various movements that led to freedom of our nation. The art gallery also had pictures of various national leaders of that time and children were made aware of these leaders and their role in the freedom movements.
Next,we visited the place where ‘Charkha’ – the spinning wheels are kept. Children were very excited to see a charkha and to learn about its use and importance.
Lastly we visited ‘Hriday Kunj’ – the house where Gandhiji lived from 1915 to 1930. There the children were briefed by Ms Lata. She opened the conversation by explaining the history of the ashram in brief, thereafter she welcomed questions from children and answered them all to their satisfaction.
We completed our visit with a short prayer. The children were very happy to have a memorable trip to a place that enlightened them to many important historical moments.
