The JGIS auditorium buzzed with enthusiasm as students from Grades IX to XII showcased their confidence, eloquence and critical thinking at the Inter-House English Debate, held on Friday, 9th October 2026, on the thought-provoking theme “Modern Society is Becoming Less Empathetic.”
The competition featured two participants from each House, with one speaking in favour of the motion and the other against it. The participants presented well-researched arguments, compelling viewpoints and engaging rebuttals, demonstrating their ability to articulate their thoughts with clarity and conviction. A lively session of questions and counter-questions followed, during which participants raised logical and thought-provoking questions and responded confidently with relevant examples to support their arguments.
The distinguished judges, Ms. Shilpa Thakkar and Ms. Shobha Menon, appreciated the participants for their articulate delivery, insightful arguments and confident presentation. They also encouraged students to participate in such competitions to enhance their oratory skills, broaden their perspectives and develop the ability to express their opinions effectively.

The competition proved to be an intellectually stimulating experience, leaving the audience reflecting on the importance of empathy, compassion and understanding in building a more humane and inclusive society. It also reinforced the value of respectful dialogue, critical thinking and the ability to appreciate diverse perspectives.
The event concluded with the National Anthem.
